My last week of football before surgery and boy was it eventful.
We had a team not show up once again for the second or third time in a row. It is crazy that a team just won’t show up, it sucks for the team that is supposed to play against them.
With the school year ready to end in a few days, I’m wondering if we will be setting up the kid’s league again this season. I hope so, but I also know it is a lot to get done and we would need more coaches to help run drills and organize a team.
The one point I make every week is that we are playing a game for fun, but I guess some players think that MFL is a stepping block to the NFL. You all need to settle the sea monkeys down and come out and enjoy yourself. Everyone blames the refs for bad calls or missed calls, but I want to point out that the NFL is a multi billion-dollar company and has the same issues and they have replay to look back at and make a correct call. If you think refereeing is easy, go see Terry on Saturday and you can find out how little fun it is to get berated all game from certain players that want and need everything to go their way.
Recap
Division 1
Master Chiefs vs Outlaws (32-40)
With Vinny and Steve both under center you expect to see a lot of great balls being thrown, but the best and most surprising throw of the game came from Mike Jaz. It was fourth down and 15 yards to go, Jaz drops from center and Vinny throws him the ball and instead of throwing it back to Vinny he threw a dart to Avery who was coming across the field. Mike hit him in stride and in traffic. I was just as shocked as everyone that Mike threw that pass. Master Chiefs had a few too many drops in the game that hurt them early and then late in the game they weren’t on the same page. No Smuda, no Svetna, no Jaf? No problem is what Steve said. Max was sure handed on offense, but made his presence felt on defense snagging 2 picks. Josh had a big game scoring only once, but grabbing 10 passes for 95 yards. Steve was able to have his way with Chiefs defense since he was able to avoid baby Maynard rushing him all game except once which allowed him time to look at multiple receivers before throwing the ball.
Division 2
Missed D2 this week hope to be back next week.
Division 3
Phoenix vs Thunder Buddies (45-18)
Thunder Buddies lost David due to injuries and we have known for a while now, but this week he was replaced on the roster by Brady which is huge. Brady is a fantastic defender and a solid receiver. I knew going in that it was going to be a struggle and it was. Opening drive Terry picked us apart and drove to score. Phoenix looked to answer and after a few drops Phoenix was left with a fourth and ten from midfield. I knew we had to go for it, but I wanted to punt because we had just dropped a few passes and wanted to play smart, but at midfield you have to go for it. I threw a post to Alec who stretched out and brought it in with his fingertips. After both teams traded TDs, Terry went for it on fourth in their zone and with the turnover it put Phoenix in a great position to go up a TD. With time running out in the half Phoenix had a 20-12 lead with Thunder Buddies driving, but the half ran out of time without them scoring. Second half rolled around and Phoenix started with the ball and everything I said at half came true. We went down and scored, defense was going to get a pick and we were going to score again and go up 3 scores. After that, the game was all but over. There were a few plays that if made would have made the game different. I threw a pass to Josh, but I was too trigger happy and let it fly to early and Ryan made a great jump on the ball that if he caught might have been for 6 points. Oh, and I was told to mention how Nick is still waiting for his father’s day card from Willie after taking ownership of him on Saturday.
Division 4
100 Genies vs Phoenix (0-25)
This game was actually 13-19 but got switched to a forfeit because Genies had a sub that was above the sub cap limit. It sucks balls, but rules are rules. 100 Genies were missing Gabriel and not only is he their QB, but he is also one heck of a defender. Othmane Karamat is their next best player and yes, he did get 3 sacks which is great, but on offense we locked him down to only getting 2 catches for 15 yards. Vince dominated this game on the stat sheet scoring twice, over 100 yards and getting 3 picks, but most of those yards were on his 2 big TD catches. With 6 minutes left Phoenix was down 13-6 and they hadn’t moved the ball much all day and it was do or die time. Phoenix scored but missed the convert and with 3 minutes left Phoenix needed a stop and to have any chance at getting the win. After 100 Genies started moving the ball, I decided to go rush for a play to mix it up and confuse the QB. Guillaume felt he was going to have a chance at a big play, but the ball was a bit high and he had to jump which gave me time to get to him. I sacked him and on the next play he threw the ball quickly where Vince got his third pick of the game. Phoenix did score to take a 5-point lead with 30 seconds left. We went for 1 and the play was huge since it would put us up 6 and give us a buffer sort of. Kat ran her route and without anyone around her she pulled the ball in to put us up 6. With 30 seconds and all their timeouts 100 Genies were able to get past half, but nothing after that.
Division 5
Slicks vs Jungle Squad (32-13)
Guillaume had a game to warm up before and was ready to go once the first whistle blew. Guillaume is a good D5 QB, but he could become an exceptionally good high division rusher as well. Scott runs that defense and makes sure that everyone knows what to do and where to be in every situation. Luca is a payer teams need to watch out for he is fast, but that’s not what will beat you its his shiftiness that you need to look out for. You have heard of stopping and changing direction on a dime, they coined that after watching him do a few drills. Jungle Squad has been screwed by injuries in the past and let’s hope that Jérôme can comeback and that it was just a little tweak to his knee. With the way Slicks are I won’t be surprised to see them make a deep run in the playoffs.
514 vs Big Booties (6-27)
This game might get changed to a forfeit, not 100% since 514 was only 3 players and used 3 subs including 1 that was well above the limit and Max threw 4 passes, 3 incompletes, and a pick to Alex the sub who is over cap. I will just make a few pointers about this game and leave it like that. Remi Faugere just takes the easy throws and listens to Max as he played QB for years and years and knows what he is talking about when he says run a play. As for 514, Lesniak you need to show up, lol. Jean-Philippe Larouche as a first time QB it will get better than that. 6 picks is rough, but with a few simple adjustments you can cut that in half easily. Most, if not all, your passes were thrown into the middle of the field where there is more congestion. Try using the sidelines, have players run drags or outs give yourself easy throws and don’t force anything stupid. One player that impressed me in this game was Charles Schiller. If you could have seen him a few seasons ago, he had no clue about to run routes, catch the ball, play defense, or even rush which is what he has done up to now. In this game Charles made a few good catches, made some tackles, and made his first ever pick. For me, the most impressive thing he did was body placement. Meaning that instead of sticking out his arms to make a catch where the defender can make a play on the ball, he is moving his body into place to protect the ball from the defender. It’s plays like that when you see them you can see that he is figuring it out and once you can just react without thinking is when you become a dangerous player.

Studs & Duds
We had a few big Studs this week and a bunch of Duds and I have no clue where I should start, but guess we should start with the good before the bad and I’ve thought about adding in the ugly, but I’d need a complete player list to do that.
Studs
Division 1
- Brady Ohanessian 3 TDs and 1 pick in 2 games.
Division 2
- Stephen Harripersaud as many incomplete passes as TDs 14 in 2 games.
Division 3
- Jean-François Lawrence 1 TD, 1 1-point convert, 2 picks and returned 1 for a TD
Division 4
- Vincent Martel 2 catches, 2 picks, 0 runs and 4 TDs. Figured it out yet. He scored on both his picks.
Division 5
- Marcel Jovani 3 more TDs on the season plus another pick as well
Women’s
- Julie Gauvin 7 catches 41 yards and a TD on offense but Julie stepped up and dominated on defense with 3 picks
Duds
Division 1
- The children for their behavior and you know who you are
Division 2
- Pierre-Olivier Tremblay-Agelakos 19 of 41 with 3 picks is tough and why you see your name up here
Division 3
- Thunder Buddies defensive stat line of 4 tackles as a team, plus giving up 45 points as well
Division 4
- Brian Mustard 5 picks gets you on the list automatically
Division 5
- The Sniffers for not showing up again after saying you were going to be there
Women’s
- Roxanne Roy going 8 of 27 for 40 yards
Those are your winners and your losers following week 7. I had lots of picks to make, but think the ones I made were well deserved.
